2017 Solo Seal Award

In February 2017, Claire Wu became the third Rachel’s Ballet student to reach the pinnacle of the Royal Academy of Dance Examination syllabus- The Solo Seal Award. The Solo Seal examination may only be attempted by students who gain their RAD Advanced 2 with Distinction. It is estimated that less than 1% of RAD students in over 70 countries worldwide who take their RAD exams reach this level- and even less are awarded the Solo Seal, as the passing number is 80!

Claire traveled to Vancouver, Canada to take her exam, which consisted of 3 variations performed onstage in front of a live audience, an RAD examiner and an additional artistic judge from the professional dance community. There were two American candidates, and eight Canadians. Miss Ashley, Miss Rachel and Miss Leigh Ann were in the audience with Claire’s mother, Cynthia.

Candidates were warmly welcomed and cared for by the Canadian organizer, and we learned at the end of the event that successful candidates will also receive a $1000.00 (CAN) scholarship for their further training.
